Does Zumba Fitness Improve Stamina?

Stamina is the body’s ability to withstand physical pressures for a considerable duration of time without collapsing or stopping due to fatigue which is also called endurance. Our body has cardiovascular endurance and muscular endurance. Cardiovascualr endurance determines how efficient is your heart to supply oxygenated blood to working muscles, while muscular endurance determines for how long can your muscles work without tiring. Both of these fitness components determine the fitness gradation. Good Exercise routine and Diet are pillars of these components.

So does zumba fitness improve stamina ? Yes, it does. Zumba focuses on both these components thus improving them. Because Zumba’s music plays at a fast pace, moving to the beat of the music can start to build up your endurance after only a few workouts. It builds up your anaerobic endurance(muscle endurance) rather quickly. it’s most useful for helping to maintain a good cardiovascular respiratory system. It increases how much oxygen you can breathe during a high-intensity event. This fast pace makes it feel natural to move around quickly. This will set you on the path to true aerobic exercise. If you are trying to build endurance, this is the best thing you can do for yourself. Exercising for prolonged periods at this rate can increase the strength of your heart.

According to a Research conducted by American Council on Exercise on Zumba to analyse it’s effects on physiological parameters like Cardiovascular Endurance (Stamina), Calories burnt, Heart Rate. It was seen that participants of the study burnt 369 calories per zumba class and they improved on stamina. The researchers then concluded “Bottom line, Zumba fitness is an effective interval-style, full-body workout with built-in variety because every class and every instructor is slightly different. Equally important is the notion that Zumba classes are entertaining, which means exercisers are busy burning calories and getting fit while enjoying the fun of Latin dancing”.

Also when we conducted a 3 month research study at Zumba Fitness Mumbai, particpants’ stamina were analysed before and after the study and the improvements were significant. Participants felt fit. They could do all the movements easily and gracefully with lot more energy.
